Is Fallout 76 Worth Playing in 2021

In a moment of surprising clarity and transparency, Bethesda's Todd Howard spoke about how Fallout 76 has disappointed many fans.

As with the beloved Fallout franchise, it's not without its flaws. Fans were well aware of this, but Todd Howard himself acknowledges this. Specifically, this is a reference to the controversy over Fallout 76's online entries (the series was released in 2018). Two years later, the game looks very different than when it was first released, but in an interview with the Guardian, Howard discussed the game's early development and how the game's publisher slowdown affected fans. This sort of thing isn't surprising, but it's nice to see a big name like Howard call it like it is.

For those of you who don't know, Fallout 76 is Bethesda's first attempt at a fully online Fallout game. In the past, it has done something similar with Elder Scrolls Online, but this will be different in many ways. For starters, Fallout 76 has no NPCs of any kind, only other players or enemies that players can encounter. This and other issues have been addressed since the initial release, and updates like Wastelanders and Steel Dawn have really helped flesh out the game.

In his exact words, Howard said, "We [Bethesda] let a lot of people down," but said he was confident that Bethesda had redeemed the game with all the positive changes it had made since then. Roger. On the broader issue of multiplayer in Bethesda games, Howard's position is interesting and likely to influence how multiplayer moves forward.

First, he makes it clear that Bethesda is a big proponent of single-player games, as that is what the studio is best known for. On a similar note, he commented that even for games intended to be fully multiplayer, there will always be players who want to play single player without causing distractions for other players. This can be done in Elder Scrolls Online, but trying to do it early in Fallout 76 can be annoying. Also, it would be easier if you get the service from That said, perhaps Howard and Bethesda as a whole will work to create engaging multiplayer games while ensuring that they are just as fun in single player mode.

There's plenty of evidence that Fallout 76 was poorly received, but not for its redemption arc. The work Bethesda has done to make Fallout 76 an enjoyable and fresh experience is certainly appreciated, and it's a breath of fresh air to hear someone as outspoken and supreme as Howard admit that the game's release has failed. For those who haven't checked in since Fallout 76's release, now is the perfect time to do so, as the title has been a huge hit for Xbox Game Pass. It's not too late when it comes to video games, as many games before Fallout 76 (like Final Fantasy 14 or No Man's Sky) turned out to be amazing after just a little extra effort.
